***To conduct my research questions I made a Google form and shared it with my mom and two best friends to see what their opinions on these questions were and how different generations would respond.***
Question 1: How do social media platforms contribute to the dissemination and reinforcement of beauty standards?
Question 2: What are the potential consequences of unrealistic beauty standards on mental health, particularly among adolescents and young adults?
Question 3: What role do airbrushing and photo editing play in shaping unrealistic beauty standards in magazines and advertisements?
Question 1 General Response: Based off of the research questions that I asked some of my friends and family the general overarching theme I noticed in my response was that factors such as filters and tools to edit, influencers and celebrities and the overall comparison of others contribute to the dissemination and reinforcement of beauty standards. All of which were mentioned throughout my responses. I felt as though these responses were very accurate and just about all of Gen-Z can agree that our generation has a serious problem when it comes to the standard of beauty given the media.
Question 2 General Response: My respondents answered this question by stating that issues such as Perfectionism, Cyberbullying, Depression and Anxiety, Eating Disorders, and Low Self-Esteem are all serious issues that could arise as a result of these unrealistic beauty standards. This is why we as a society need to work on recognizing the impact of these unrealistic beauty standards and create a world of better mental health and self-acceptance.
Question 3 General Response: Overall all three of my respondents answered this question by claiming that the use of editing feeds into the standardization of beauty, unattainable standards, the normalization of unrealistic features, and the misrepresentation of products.
