Unit 3 Reflection

UNIT 3 REFLECTION For our unit three reflection, our group embarked on a journey by revisiting the topics from our Unit 2 portfolios. Inspired by our insights and experiences, we embarked on a mission to amplify our voices and empower women through podcasting. We proudly present EmpowerHer: Wellness as a Woman, a platform dedicated to shedding light on women's challenges in our ever-evolving digital landscape. Unit 3 DRAFT

While it is challenging to create a physical draft as my group's final project is a video/podcast, my group plans to make a women empowerment podcast named "Empower-Her." My group thought that a podcast would be the most effective option as podcasts are on the rise and are becoming increasingly popular. We decided that a podcast would be the best platform to help amplify our messages and raise awareness.  Outline of our three episodes: Sponsorship Episode 1: Self-Care isn't self-ish Episode 2: Beauty Standards  Episode 3: Trends and fitting in  Warm and Empowering Message Our goal with this podcast is to raise awareness and provide a place of comfort and belonging to anyone who struggles with what comes with being a woman in our society today. We want to raise awareness and, most importantly, EMPOWER.

Graphic Novels

The book I selected from the library is called My Brother's Husband.  While reading the beginning of the book, I understood that there was Yachi, a single dad living in Japan with his daughter Kana. The book starts with uncovering the death of Yachis's brother, and the reader can pick up on the fact that Yachi is still grieving and having a difficult time with the loss of his brother.   This book touches on homophobia as Yachi learns that his dead brother has an unknown husband, which comes as a great shock to Yachi, but the reader sees as the book continues, he starts to open up.  From what I have read, I have discovered that this graphic novel touches on cultural barriers and family dynamics. When trying to think about this book as a form of technology, I had a tough time connecting the two, but I finally came up with a connection. I thought of the relationship between technology and the LBGTQ+ community. It is a positive that technology can help play a role in online r...

Reddit

Turning Hate On The Internet Into Humor This fascinating podcast highlighted a topic many of us would not consider looking this deeply into. This podcast showed what happens on Reddit and how extreme hate can spread like wildfire on sites like Reddit. I was fascinated by how Reddit moderators take negative on the platform, such as homophobia and racism, and turn it around to create humor on the platform, essentially using reverse psychology on these internet trolls. Redditors and moderators use humor to “take power away from those who hate.”  Many of these moderators, like Melinda, dedicate much of their lives to fighting these Reddit haters, trying to inform them and educate them on the topic rather than being aggressive and creating an even more hostile and aggressive platform.  A subreddit is a community or forum on Reddit's social media platform dedicated to a particular topic, interest, or theme. Users can subscribe to subreddits r...
